Inspired by Lucio Ribeiro’s (@lucio_ribeiro) list 20 Australians you should be following on Twitter I thought I’d introduce you to a few people I believe are worth following.

The criteria: under 150 followers but most importantly they needed to be recently, usefully, interestingly and significantly active (with one or two exceptions that I know will come good).

1. Marty Wirth @martybigtime (61 followers)
Frontman for Modular -home to The Presets, The Avalanches, Bang Gang Deejays, Wolfmother. Super smart guy. Needs to Tweet more but reckon he will.

2. Erik Ingvoldstad @ingvoldSTAR (82 followers)
Norwegian online copywriter turned Executive Creative Director, McCann Sydney. I look at this man through a glass wall all day. His profile picture is worth the trip alone.

3. Lifeatthebottom @lifeatthebottom (88 followers)
I think these guys (plural?) are Melbournian creative types. Juniors. I like that they’re having a go – didn’t even need a brief! Cool site too.

4. Tom Kelshaw @tomkelshaw (134 followers)
Tom’s a very smart cookie from Sydney currently in a Brazillian favella helping local communities engage with the internet. Would love to work with him again one day.

5. Kieran Ots @otsmeister (59 followers)
Digital Creative Director at Leo Burnett Sydney. Blogs, writes fiction, tumblrs and a tonne more. Deep thinker.

6. Erietta @erietta (68 followers)
Hilarious user experience type from Daemon.

7. Chloe Sasson @chloerobot (68 followers)
Currently at Google. Formerly of MySpace, Inertia Music… Writes music stuff for Sydney Morning Herald (still doing this, C?).

8. Binh Wilson @binhwilson (15 followers)
Binh is behind the massive Huggies online community. Has worked at Tribal DDB, STW360. Bit quiet on Twitter but she’s one to watch.

9. Sudeep Gohil @sudeepgohil (143 followers)
Sudeep’s the Planning Director at Droga 5. He’s an Aussie but had a prolific tenure in the States at W+K. Great to see him on Twitter and evangelising it to his ‘more seasoned’ industry friends.

10. Brendan Willenberg @bwillenberg (35 followers)
Copywriter at McCann Sydney. Represents new generation of creative thinker for whom emerging channels are opportunities rather than obstacles. Witty dood too.

11. Jo Sabin @roneo (35 followers)
Another deep thinker. Into human behaviour, tribes. She probably reads more than you so worth following for that alone.

12. Mojo @nine43 (19 followers)
Jon’s an eclectic ideas man, designer, creative director type currently in Beijing at Enfatico. Tune in for visual and cultural updates.

13. Mark Cripps @crippo (60 followers)
Mark’s based in Hong Kong and has some posh job title like ‘Head Digitalisationer’ for MRM. But despite his posh title, is a pretty down to earth, interesting guy.

14. James Drewe @jamesdrewe (55 followers)
I don’t know James offline but he works at Starcom Digital in Brisbane and seems like he has lots to offer.

15. Scott Esdaile @scottesdaile (45 followers)
Another Brisbane-ite that I don’t know and actually only stumbled across as I was writing this post. He blogs and is a jazz musician on top of digital marketing stuff. Cool.

16. Aaron Michie @ordnung (75 followers)
I used to sit next to this crazy New Zealander. He’s currently head digital strategeriser at BMF.

(bonus addition) 17. Tarnya Baohm @TarnyaBaohm (126 followers)
Tarnya rightly pointed out to me (after this post went live) that she, too, is a future superstar. My bad. Tarnya is the digital marketing manager at RaboPlus. I missed her the first time because I hadn’t seen her getting busy but turns out she’s been Twitterating quite a bit.

    I can vouch for #16! I also had the fortune to work with this Kiwi at Tribal DDB.

    "Ordnung" as he's known in some parts is mad as a cut snake, but a very smart cookie...

    A great list Mark P.
  • Great post Mark! I am hoping that @wavesound will be one to watch soon.

    I am the Business Coordinator, an avid reader and blogger and hoping to get into contact with libraries and librarians all over Australia. Wavesound will be launching mid 2009 and selling the full range of Clipper products ( Audio, Large Print and Playaway) to libraries all over Australia, for you ( anyone with a library card) to read, listen to and enjoy.

    Nice working with you, Mark. Excellent to work with look forward to the future but loving the present and certainly not regreting the past.
  • Thanks for the mention, Mark. Hope to be working with you again, too. Let's review in 2010 ;)

    @tomkelshaw
  • Hoo- f***ing-ray! Finally a list that doesn't involve the regular league tables of "twitter rock stars."
  • Wowsers! Thanks for including me on your list. I've spent the last few days unplugged and offline, so it was a nice surprise to see this today. Cheers

    @Nick Crocker - why only 7? :)

  • Great listing - good to see some new people on the up so to speak. And further illustration of how usage is spreading.

    @bennglazier
