14 pretend-real Twitter ‘people’ to follow

I’ve had a few debates this week with inanimate objects and icons… in real life. One of them (@acatinatree) suggested that she had a more ‘real’ experience online by creating a fake avatar to hide behind. I thought this was quite interesting. She blogged about it.

She does have a point – I just disagree.

So I thought – in the spirit of #followfriday – that I’d put together a list of people like @acatinatree that I believe are actually worth following on Twitter. Not all are completely anonymous in avatar and name but they do come close.

  • Can't believe I missed this when you posted it 2 months ago!

Suffice to say I have been blogging for a while. Over time my blog has become a recognisible brand. So it's my blogging brand that uses Twitter not me.

    Actually that's not completely true.

I use the same avatar pic for all my online identities including Linkedin. So obviously my blog brand and my personal brand are merging.
  • I'm still pretty new to this Twitter Game, but enjoyed your take on urber cool peeps to follow other than the same old list of twitter grand daddies. Also, for some reason, I started following a cat the other day. The only tweet it makes is ~ Meow. I'm not sure what made me do it (along with 597 other people), but I guess I'm just waiting for the moment it says something profound. If you don't know already ~ go check it out http://twitter.com/FluffyTheCat

  • What a charmingly generous way to concede defeat make your point :P I still think attributing inherent value to one word rather than another is a flawed construct, especially when the identity behind that word is only a google away, but I get what you're saying. I see I'm in excellent company...but I guess we must all be the exceptions that prove the rule, right? :D

A fun post and good choice of twits, Mark, but Stilherrian is actually his real name. It's right there on his website.
  • Interesting article, I have real photo for my avatar but not my name. Some who use fake name and avatars then link to their websites or blogs that have About pages that tell you all about them, real names and photo's.
As long as they keep communicating it doesn't really matter. BTW this has been entered being on imate 9502 that run wm6, all good so far.
